Liposuction Meaning

Posted by administration on May 29, 2017

Liposuction.jpgLiposuction is a form of cosmetic surgery where fat is removed from a particular area of the body by dissolving it and then sucking it out with a tube. Liposuction can be performed on different areas of the body including the abdomen, thighs, buttocks and backs of the arms.

In general, fat is removed by using a cannula (a hollow tube) and an aspirator (a suction device). Liposuction techniques can be categorized by the amount of fluid injection and by the mechanism in which the cannula works. Some techniques include:

Suction-assisted liposuction is the standard method of liposuction. In this approach, a small cannula (like a straw) is inserted through a small incision and is attached to a vacuum device. Dr. Name then pushes and pulls the cannula in a forwards and backwards motion, carefully through the fat layer, breaking up the fat cells and drawing them out of the body by suction of the vacuum device.

Power-assisted liposuction uses a specialized cannula with mechanized movement, so that Dr. Name does not need to make as many manual movements.

Water-assisted liposuction uses a thin fan-shaped water beam which loosens the structure of the fat tissue, so that it can be removed by a special cannula. During the liposuction, the water is continually added and almost immediately aspirated via the same cannula.

Laser-assisted liposuction uses a laser to melt the fat in the target area, making it easier to remove. This laser is administered through a fiber threaded through a microcannula.

Tumescent liposuction is a technique that provides a liquid (composed primarily of lidocaine, a local anesthetic, and epinephrine which helps to shrink blood vessels) to be injected into the treatment area. The added fluid forces the compartments of fat to swell and firm up, which lets Dr. Name extract the unwanted fat more smoothly and with minimal bleeding. The anesthetic reduces pain after the procedure. Tumescent liposuction is considered by many to be the safest and most effective form of liposuction.

Not everyone is a suitable candidate for liposuction and it is not an appropriate alternative to dieting or exercising. To learn more about liposuction or to schedule a consultation with Dr. Serota, contact Advanced Cosmetic Surgery Center at 303-367-9000 or

Breast Lift and Augmentation

Posted by administration on May 29, 2017

Breast_Lift.jpgFor women who have lost breast size or with breasts that have become droopy as a result of childbearing, age, and/or weight loss, a combination breast lift and augmentation is usually the most effective method for breast enhancement. An implant is used to increase the volume, proportion and upper breast fullness while the breast lift is used to reshape the breast, elevate the areolas and to remove extra skin.

The breast lift and augmentation procedure combines the two procedures in a single operative session. This procedure may be performed for cosmetic purposes, or as part of a reconstructive procedure.

So, what problems does the breast lift and augmentation address? Over time, both your nipple and your breast mound may descend on your chest wall producing a drooping appearance. It is normal, like the rest of your body, for your breasts to sag as you grow older and the sagging is exacerbated by childbirth, genetics, weight gain and weight loss. Breast skin and ligaments that hold your breast to the muscle beneath becomes stretched and weaker and when the breast tissue decreases, your skin gets loose. In these cases, a combination of a breast lift (mastopexy) with the placement of an implant (augmentation) ensures the most successful aesthetic outcome.

Augmenting while lifting the breast often solves the following concerns:

  • Sagging or 'hanging' breasts
  • Loss of fullness in the top portion of breasts
  • Loss of shape and volume
  • Stretch marks on the breasts
  • Asymmetry of one or both breasts

In most cases, the implant is placed beneath the pectoral muscle and the breast lift is then performed. The shape of the breast mound is usually better when both breast augmentation and breast lift are performed together.

Arm Lift Scar

Posted by administration on May 22, 2017

Arm_Lift.jpgIf you feel self-conscious about sagging skin on your upper arms, an arm lift, brachioplasty, may be an excellent solution for you. During this surgical body contouring procedure, excess hanging skin is trimmed from the arm.

Arm lift surgery may be a good option if you have recently lost a lot of weight after bariatric surgery or due to diet and exercise. It can also be an effective way to treat signs of aging in your upper arms.

An unavoidable side effect of arm lift surgery is scarring. While there is nothing that can be done to avoid arm lift scars, Dr. Serota will work carefully to conceal the scars as much as possible.

The size and location of an arm lift scar depends on the type of arm lift procedure and amount of skin removed. Dr. Serota will help you choose the right arm lift technique for you based on your cosmetic goals and the natural contours of your arms.

Upper Arm Lift: The traditional scar for an arm lift is located on the inner portion of the arm from the level of the elbow to the armpit, and sometimes extends down the side of the chest. A curved or z-shaped incision may be created during the procedure to minimize the appearance of scarring after healing.

Extended Brachioplasty: If you have severely lax skin, you may be a better candidate for an extended brachioplasty. In this surgery, the incision will stretch from the armpit and down along the side of the chest. This longer incision allows the maximum amount of skin to be removed.

Mini Arm Lift: This type of arm lift is best for patients who do not have a large amount of skin to be removed. In this procedure, the incision is much smaller. In most cases, the incision can be placed in the armpit, where the scar will be barely visible.

It takes quite a while for a scar to heal. During the first few months after an arm lift procedure, it is normal for the skin along the incision to appear bright red. The skin may also be raised. While the scar is healing, most patients conceal their scar. The location of the incision ensures that the scar should not be noticeable unless a patient has their arms raised. Patients can be confident that as the scar continues to heal, the appearance of it will become less noticeable.

If loose, upper arm skin is affecting your confidence, you may be an ideal candidate for an arm lift procedure. To learn more about arm lift surgery, schedule an appointment with Dr. Serota by contacting Advanced Cosmetic Surgery Center at 303-367-9000 or

Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure

Posted by administration on May 22, 2017

Brazilian_Butt_LIft.jpgPatients in Denver who are unhappy with the appearance of their backside, whether due to size, shape or sagging skin, can enhance their figures with a Brazilian butt lift procedure. This procedure is often ideal for those who have lost weight and feel their buttocks lack shape or who simply wish to improve the appearance of their backsides. A Brazilian butt lift procedure enhances the size and shape of a patient's butt so that it better fits their figure and provides an attractive, prominent rear end.

This type of butt lift is very popular because it requires only small incisions. During Brazilian butt lift surgery, fat from areas of the body such as the back, abdomen, hips and thighs is removed through liposuction. During this process, Dr. Serota makes a small incision in the region with excess fat and inserts a small tube to dissolve fat deposits before gently extracting them.

After they are removed, the fat cells are purified and the best tissue is used for injection into the buttocks with tiny tubes at various depths for a natural look and feel. The number, depth and amount of injections will depend on your desired results and Dr. Serota’s recommendation. The final result is a rounder, fuller behind that looks natural because, unlike butt implants or synthetic fillers, it uses your own tissues. The procedure can usually be completed in about two hours.

Like most cosmetic surgery procedures, Brazilian butt lift can be performed on its own or in combination with other procedures such as abdominoplasty and breast augmentation as part of a more comprehensive body contouring plan. During a consultation in Denver, Dr. Serota can help you determine if you are a suitable candidate for a Brazilian butt lift procedure. What Is A Tummy Tuck?

Posted by administration on May 15, 2017

Are sit-ups just not giving you the tight, toned tummy you desire? If you've got excess skin in your abdomen that won't decrease with diet or exercise, you may want to consider an abdominoplasty, popularly referred to as a tummy tuck. A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that flattens your abdomen by removing excess fat & skin and tightens separated muscles in the abdominal wall, creating a smoother and firmer silhouette.

Even individuals with a normal body weight and proportion can develop an abdomen that protrudes or is loose and sagging. The most common causes of this include:

  • Aging
  • Heredity
  • Pregnancy
  • Significant fluctuations in weight

The Best Candidates for Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is suitable for both men and women who are in good overall general health. Women who have muscles and skin stretched by multiple pregnancies may find the procedure useful to tighten those muscles and reduce excess skin. A tummy tuck is also an answer for men or women who have experienced significant weight loss and still have excessive fat deposits or loose skin in the abdominal area.

Who Should Not Consider a Tummy Tuck?

If you're a woman who is still planning to have children, then you may want to postpone a tummy tuck until you're through bearing children. During surgery, your vertical muscles are tightened and future pregnancies can separate these muscles. If you still plan to lose a significant amount of weight, you will want to wait on having a tummy tuck. It's important to note that a tummy tuck can cause prominent, permanent scarring. If this is something you don't want, you may want to reconsider. A tummy tuck cannot correct stretch marks, although these may be removed or somewhat improved if they are located on the areas of excess skin that will be excised.

A flat and well-toned abdomen is something many of us strive for through diet and exercise but sometimes these methods cannot achieve our goals. If you’re ready to address your mid-section issues, contact Advanced Cosmetic Surgery Center at 303-367-9000 or to schedule a tummy tuck consultation with Dr. Serota.
