Arm Lift with Liposuction and Skin Removal

Arm_Lift_and_Liposuction.jpgMost often an arm lift is performed on patients that have had massive weight loss. When this occurs, skin will need to be removed so that the arm can be reshaped and the desired results can be achieved. During this procedure, you will be under anesthesia and your surgeon will perform liposuction to remove any remaining fat. Then an incision is made, usually stretching from the elbow to underneath the arm pit. In some cases, it is necessary to make the incision along the side of the breast as well. The actual size will be determined prior to surgery, during the consultation.

The incision is usually elliptical or triangular; the space contained between the incisions is the amount of skin removed. Once the skin has been removed, the incisions are sutured together and bandaged. Again, scars will be apparent, but will usually appear under the arm. The entire procedure should take about one hour per arm.

Once the procedure is complete, your arms will be wrapped with a compression garment. You will need to keep your arms elevated for a few days and slow return to normal function of your hands and arms will commence over the following few weeks. Most patients are fully recovered and enjoying their new arms within four weeks.
