Breast Surgery and Breastfeeding
Breast surgery is one of the most common procedures performed by our office. One of the most frequently asked questions at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery Center in Denver, concerns breastfeeding following surgery.
Breast surgery, performed by experts in this procedure, should not impact your ability to breastfeed. As long as the milk ducts are not injured during the surgery or disconnected from the nipples by an incision, all of the essential hardware is intact. Some women worry that breast enlargements using silicone implants may cause the silicon to get into the breast milk but this is not the case.
Breast reduction may sometimes increase the risk of breastfeeding becoming impacted post-surgery, since incisions can be larger. According to some research, women who have had breast surgery improve their odds of successfully breastfeeding if at least five years have passed before trying to breastfeed.
