Tummy Tuck Recovery Time Part Two

Tummy_Tuck.jpgWeek 2 of Recovery: It is normal to still have swelling in the abdominal area. Pain, bruising and tightness should have significantly lessened by the second week. Massage of the abdominal area during the second week can help with healing. The compression garment should still be worn at all times, other than when showering and laundering.

Although you may be feeling better around this time, it is important to still take it easy when it comes to activity. Avoid driving, exercise, lifting anything and housework. Most people feel ready to go back to work (and most of their routines) about 10 to 14 days post-surgery.

Week 3 and 4 of Recovery: At this stage of recovery, light exercise is usually safe. However, major exercise – especially exercise that impacts the abdomen – should still be avoided for another couple of weeks. Sit-ups and weight training are usually permitted at the six-week mark, but make sure to get Dr. Serota’s approval before doing so.

You can switch to a medium compression garment at this point - such as Spanx. Continue to wear the medium compression garment for a full 4 to 6 weeks’ post-surgery.

Full Recovery: It may take between three and six months for full tummy tuck results to be realized. At this point you can begin to really enjoy your new, flat midsection! In order to maintain long term results, a healthy diet and exercise routine is highly recommended.
