Upper Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery, also called blepharoplasty, is a popular surgical procedure, especially among seniors. It is often called an eye lift, although there is no lifting of the skin involved.
Upper eyelid excess skin and fat can create a heavy looking eyelid, aged appearance and puffiness. It can sometimes block vision. Health insurance sometimes pays for upper eyelid surgery if vision is being impaired due to the heavy eyelid blocking vision.
Upper eyelid surgery uses incisions on the skin to allow for removal of fat and excess skin. A small, thin stitch is used to bring the skin together to allow for the creation of an eyelid crease. Upper blepharoplasty is performed to remove excess skin and fat and can improve vision.
Although some bruising is common after upper eyelid surgery, recovery is usually quick. Patients are usually quite pleased with the results of their upper eyelid surgery.
